A Child's Wish

Wishes are vessels for hope, and at Camp Sunshine we have a way to make wishes into something real, something everyone can hold onto. During an Arts and Crafts session, each child creates a unique Wish Boat that holds a candle. On the final evening of Camp, the boats are brought to a pond, and the candles are lit. During this ceremony, children express a wish they are feeling after their week at Camp Sunshine. Some wish aloud, while others wish silently as they blow out the candles on their boats.

Some wishes we have heard:

“I wish I never have to go back in the hospital.”

“I wish I could stay at Camp Sunshine forever.”

“My wish is, ‘I wish my mom didn’t worry so much about me.’”

“I wish my little brother would get over his cancer.”
