Since its inception in 1984, Camp Sunshine has served thousands of children with life-threatening illnesses and their families from around the world. Over the course of the past quarter century in service, Camp Sunshine has dramatically expanded and transformed thanks to thousands of generous donors.
The focus now is to increase annual operating income, while building on the Endowment Fund. Both will provide short and long term stability, will help secure the future of the program, and will support continued program growth.
Another main focus has been the enhancement of the campus through major capital projects which are helping support the continued growth of the program year-round.
Achievements
Completed in 2001, the Anna Gould & Larry Gould Campus on beautiful Sebago Lake encompasses 23 acres of donated land in Casco, Maine. The organization serves approximately 750 families (3,000 family members) annually, over the course of 25 sessions.
In 2006, with the help of a $2 million matching challenge offered by its founders Anna Gould and Larry Gould, Camp Sunshine embarked on a $14.5 million endowment and capital campaign.
On the capital side, approximately $1.4 Million was used to construct the 7,000 square foot Shaw Brothers Construction Second Floor onto Camp Sunshine's Viterbi Family Activity Center. This addition was completed in 2008. An additional $1.25 Million was allocated towards the construction of the Orokawa Foundation Family-Volunteer Center, which now houses families who have participated in Camp Sunshine’s program and are returning to volunteer and give back to Camp Sunshine. This project was completed in May of 2011.
In 2013 we completed the $14.5 million endowment and capital campaign, and commenced major campus enhancements in preparation for Camp Sunshine's 30th Anniversary in 2014.
In the years ahead, Camp Sunshine will continue to expand upon this solid foundation of support.
