Camp Sunshine is a year-round retreat which provides respite, support, joy and hope to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families through various stages of a child's illness. The program is free of charge to all families, and includes 24-hour on site medical and psychosocial support. Families of children diagnosed with cancer, kidney disease, lupus, brain tumors, solid organ transplants, and other life-threatening illnesses are eligible to apply. Bereavement programs are also offered for families who have had a child die as the result of an illness. The camp is accredited by the American Camping Association and has received the Association's prestigious Eleanor Eells Award for Program Excellence, and various other honors. On several occasions, Camp Sunshine has also been awarded Charity Navigator's highest rating for sound fiscal management.
Since its founding in 1984, the camp has had the distinction of being one of the only programs in the nation addressing the impact of a life-threatening illness on every member of the family - the ill child, siblings, and parents. Over the past twenty-five years, Camp Sunshine has provided a haven for more than 32,000 family members from around the world and from diverse cultural backgrounds.
The New Balance Foundation Brick Walkway Program is a great way for individuals, schools/classes, businesses, religious, and civic groups to let families know that you care about them and Camp Sunshine. Sections in the Walkway are available in groups of 20, 50, 100, or more.
This is a great way to motivate your employees, club members, and friends and colleagues to join together in support of children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
