Sand Castle Day

August 5th is “Build a Sand Castle Day” in Maine
As a result of the “Castle to the Sun” event, Camp Sunshine has received a Proclamation from the Office of Governor John E. Baldacci announcing Sunday, August 5, 2007 as “Build a Sand Castle Day” in the State of Maine.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, Maine resident Ed Jarrett currently holds the record for building the world’s largest sand castle; and

WHEREAS, all proceeds from the event will go to Camp Sunshine and the Maine Snow and Ice Sculpting Foundation; and

WHEREAS, the spirit of the event and the mission of Camp Sunshine both serve to highlight the importance of appreciating one’s time with one’s family; and

WHEREAS, building sand castles on Maine’s beautiful beaches also builds memories between children and their families; and

WHEREAS, Maine’s beaches are world renowned, they are often the primary reason why visitors vacation in the state during the summer, and they are here for all to enjoy,

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN E. BALDACCI, Governor of the State of Maine, do hereby proclaim Sunday, August 5, 2007 as BUILD A SAND CASTLE DAY throughout the State of Maine, and urge all citizens to recognize this observance and to take this opportunity to enjoy one of the great advantages of living in our State by spending time with their families at the beach this summer.
