Glow Heart Pumpkins
It Takes A Whole Lotta Heart to Pull These Events Off!
Camp Sunshine’s 2008 Pumpkin Festivals in Maine, Boston and New York City – It Took a Whole Lot of Heart to Pull These Events Off!
In an effort to increase the amount of funds raised at its Pumpkin Festivals, Camp Sunshine offered folks the opportunity to purchase "Glow Heart" pumpkins in honor of someone battling, or who has survived, a life-threatening illness, or in memory of someone who has lost their life to a life-threatening illness.
As we expected, the response was overwhelming, and orders kept pouring in right up to the close of the event. Over 500 hearts were ordered raising more than $5,000 for Camp Sunshine.
On Saturday, October 4, 2008, Saturday October 18, 2008 and Saturday October 25, 2008, these Glow Hearts (carved by festival volunteers) filled our giant Pumpkin Towers at Cumberland Fairgrounds in Maine, Boston’s City Hall Plaza and New York’s Central Park, and overflowed into the surrounding areas, lighting the night for all to see, and adding a very emotional touch to the events. Special thanks to Village Candle® for donating 30,000 votive candles to illuminate these and thousands of other pumpkins.
Below is a complete listing of names of people Glow Hearts were purchased in honor/memory of, along with donor names next to each. Because some individuals who purchased Glow Hearts did not list a name for which their donation was made "in memory/in honor of", we created a separate section at the bottom of this list for these individuals.
