My Info:
Hi, my name is Maxine. I visited Camp Sunshine while I was at my summer camp nearby. Both my camp and Camp Sunshine are located on Lake Sebago in Maine. When I went to Camp Sunshine I felt inspired. One of the volunteers gave my group a tour. I noticed how beautiful and peaceful and calm everything was. I thought it was the most beautiful camp I had ever seen in my life.
Although I didn’t meet any campers there, I saw some pictures on the wall of different families. I noticed that they had a swing set for kids who are in wheel chairs. That made me think, “Wow!” They really don’t leave anyone behind. Everyone is important.
Another thing that made a big impression on me was when we walked in the doorway. There was one large door for a dad, another door for a mom, a door for a brother and a door for a sister. To me this symbolized that all families are welcome here. We accept everybody. All the doors were different heights.
I think Camp Sunshine is just an amazing place to be and for my Bat Mitzvah project I want more and more families to be able to come here. I think that if you go to Camp Sunshine you go to be inspired and to have a great experience.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Camp Sunshine is a place where children with life threatening illnesses can spend a week with their immediate families and enjoy all the experiences you can think of that you would do at your own camp.
Camp Sunshine relies on voluntary donations and fundraising events to provide its programs free-of-charge. The cost to host one family for a week is $1,500. My goal is to raise enough money so a family can take advantage of this wonderful place.
